Maine Sabers - 2012 Kick-Off Event

This Wednesday at 6:30pm the Maine Sabers will be having its Kick-off Event at the Portland Sports Complex. The Sports Complex will again be the Sabers exclusive practice facility for the upcoming year.

We will also use the time to reflect briefly on last year including acknowledging players, staff and volunteers, all of whom helped make the organization exceptional.

Maine Sabers Lose In Semifinals

Maine Sabers face off against the Middleboro Cobras for the 2nd Round EFL playoffs

The Maine Sabers will be honoring members of their original (1990s) teams, as well as original members of the Portland Sea Hawks, at the Eastern Football League semifinal game at Fitzpatrick Stadium 7 p.m. Saturday. If you are a Maine Saber from the 1990s, contact Steve Goodrich at 207-450-2420. If you are a Portland Sea Hawk, please contact Joey Pompeo at 207-632-5622, or simply attend this weekend's game.

This Saturday, October 1st @ 6pm, the Maine Sabers Football Club will be have their first play-off game on the turf field at Falmouth High School. The Sabers have generously donated all gate proceeds to the Falmouth Football Program.

Steve Solloway: Rekindling that love of a sport

The Maine Sabers were winners in their return to the Eastern Football League for the 2011 season.

He didn't remember the patches of black and blue that marked body parts that pads didn't cover. No memory of aching or cramping muscles. No flashbacks to the fatigue that swept into his mind when the last second ticked off the scoreboard clock.

After four years away, Matt Benson missed the feel of a football between his hands, and looking to his left and to his right and seeing men who had become his brothers. Those were reasons enough to raise his hand when Steve Goodrich and friends decided to reform the Maine Sabers and went looking for players.

"At first I kept saying I'm not sure," said Benson. " Then it was, let's give it one more shot."
